At StoryHunt, an innovative startup that brings stories to life through a mobile app, I've had the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging projects. As the Senior UX Designer one of my tasks was changing the app, to better fit our target customers needs.

Challenge

The app needed to be better at welcoming new users and getting them up and running - quickly. A lot of the content catered to locals, but tourists had always been a key demographic and we needed to get a better understanding of their needs and define a new way of approaching the app concept.

Approach

This involved conducting interviews, design sprints, and guerilla testing to gain a deep understanding of our users' needs and preferences. The insights gained from this research were instrumental in shaping the new concept, leading to different ways of exploring a destination, instead of committing to fixed walking tour.

Key take aways

Tourists want to see the sights and learn about local life, food, history and culture.

Explore a destination freely or via a predefined, thematic tour.

New distribution channels, to better target tourists.

Increase in sales by more than 400%.

One of my significant contributions at StoryHunt was a new CMS for content creators. This project aimed to streamline the content creation process and enhance overall productivity. By focusing on user-centric design, we were able to create a system that was intuitive and efficient, making it easier for content creators to bring their stories to life.

Challenge

In developing a user-friendly CMS for StoryHunt, we faced unique challenges due to its complex workflow and numerous interactions. Given its specialized nature, user expectations and design considerations were particularly specific. To effectively navigate these challenges, we conducted extensive research on similar map-based solutions and interviews with our content creators. This helped us identify user expectations, pain points, and potential pitfalls. From this research, we generated a broad range of user stories covering all relevant use cases, which informed our design of the experience.

Solution

We prioritized an intuitive dashboard that provides a comprehensive overview of users' work. Our goal was a seamless user experience, with a user-friendly interface presenting essential options from tour creation, statistics, project management, to settings and billing details. A significant challenge was the tour creation workflow, which required an optimal navigation system for stories and the associated presentation page. We also carefully integrated features like primary and secondary media, quizzes, and routes between stories, all contributing to a streamlined and engaging user experience.
