Approach
This project was a practical application of my academic training. Collaborating with anthropologists, I engaged in interviews, participatory sketching, ideation workshops, and created prototypes and user flows. These were tested and iterated upon before finalizing the designs.
Our user selection represented a cross-section of our target market: electric car owners, heat pump users, and "normal" users without these devices. We aimed to explore if green energy could drive behavior change, particularly for users with high-consumption devices.
Solution
As the project moved into development, I remained responsible for user experience, user interface, and communication. The system comprised several physical devices for monitoring and controlling home appliances, electric cars, and heat pumps. These devices were as easy to set up as a standard electrical plug, and could be configured, controlled, and monitored from any computer, smartphone, or tablet.
The system also featured smart reporting capabilities, providing users with a visual way to monitor usage, observe trends, and receive notifications on excessive usage.
